The Adventure

First Leg

Cruising By Sail

The Shipmates

The  Vessel

Background:
This cruise is Bill's life-long dream; one which Bobi joined when they married nearly thirteen years ago, and she moved aboard. A link will be provided to their pre-Pre-nup; a humorous document. A major change came two years later with the addition of Stephen and Danielle to the household (boathold?) and the resulting need to include home schooling in the cruising plans. At least one circumnavigation is planned as the adventure is somewhat free-form, as is the length of time to be spent exploring our world.  We intend to cruise as long as it's fun and to meet all those friends we haven't met, yet..

We originally planned to depart from Los Angeles in November or December, 2000. As family and close friends know, we experienced several delays which mandated putting the trip off for months.

The original sail-loft with which we contracted new sails moved our order back three months without informing us (we cancelled that order and went to a different loft); Bill decided to replace all of the standing rigging (the stainless steel wire rope which holds the masts in place); installation of a number of new electronic items took longer than planned.

And, of course, Bobi wanted to be involved in planning the wedding of her youngest daughter. Angela married John Hogerhuis on May 26, 2001, attended by many, many family members and friends. The presiding minister was John David Webster, pastor of Westchester Community Church, Los Angeles, who was Bobi's Drum Major in high school band.

We then made a second car trip to Maine, this time to participate in the wedding of Bill's son (and Danielle's father) Scott to Linda Gray.  This addition to the family included Linda's son Wayne and daughter Jennifer, and Jennifer's daughter Marissa.  We are all happy with these additions to the family.

On October 24, 2001, Bobi and Dani were in a major crash with the family van, and are currently recovering from their injuries. The van could not be saved, and is now being recycled into soda cans. We finally settled with the persons responsible for the accident in late October 2003.

Those familiar with the major weather patterns of the Northern Hemisphere know that the hurricane season includes months of June through October. While we think of hurricanes as primarily in the Atlantic, they also occur in the Pacific, although less frequently.
