Update in Plans November 2003

As anyone who undertakes long term cruising will confirm, there are always more things to do than time to do them. We will leave here with some things incomplete, but with all critical and/or safety items completed. We have also learned from conversations with people who have cruised extensively in Mexico that the winters in the Sea of Cortez can be uncomfortably cold; summers there are very hot . We, therefore, may change the period we spend in that region, but we still do not plan to hurry through Mexico, or any later destination.

Wandering Puffin and Crew plan to depart from Los Angeles Harbor as soon as possible, heading South, with the first significant stop in San Diego. While there they will confirm that all arrangements are complete, await favorable weather and then commence the journey down the Mexican Coast. The Pacific Coast of Baja Mexico is very rugged and contains few favorable anchorages. The trip down this coast will be broken into segments as weather and harbors permit.

After reaching Cabo San Lucas, s/v Wandering Puffin and Crew will spend several months in the Sea of Cortez (also known as the Gulf of California) which is the home of whale breeding grounds, huge manta rays, and a great variety of unique land areas on both sides of the Sea of Cortez.

We will try to do frequent updates after departure.
